General MKI Celica Supra Q's

K, I've been searching TN and the net long and hard and have been unable to find the information I seek. I find either pages in languages I don't know, or conflicting information.

So... I'm trying to find reliable general info on the supra on the right in this picture

My dad had one just like it at one point, but he can't recall if it was a 1980 or 1981. I've found four different year ranges for the generations, so it's really hard to know what exactly I'm even looking at (for example, is the mk1 78-82, 79-80? I find all sorts of dates). What I'm looking for is what kind of engine, what kind of performance (engine, suspension, tranny, etc), what are the upgradeability options.

If anyone knows about that car, let me know. I really like the styling (more than the supra on the left) and as I recall I really liked riding in it, I just want to know if I could even do anything with it as a project car. Anyone?

Hey, that is damons mk1 from PA. currently, it is sporting a JDM 7m-gte transplant running stock boost. he laid down over 300rwhp in new jersey last may, and if he could get some stinkin traction, would run really low numbers on the strip. he managed low 13's i think, and was spinning to half track at cayuga friday night. he did a massive burnout and smoke show outside of richmond hill toyota last summer at our big meet as well. a motorcycle cop chase and caught him, but let him go for various reasons, one being he was from out of town.

i will try to track down his current email.

Really? Sweet, if you know him and could get me in touch, that'd be awesome. No big rush, though... I'm still paying off the camry so I can't really afford a second car at the moment

I as told on the weekend that his new email is

mk17mgte@yahoo.com

mk17mgte@hotmail.com

i have emailed him, but have not heard back yet. He has several mk2 and mk1 supras in his stable, some are perfect, others are rust buckets. He has come up to toronto for several of our meets. When you hear me discussing our upcoming summer extravaganza, remember to ask me if he is coming up again. this car is his second attempt at a 7mgte in a mk1 supra, and it is working out alot better than his first.
