Lightbulb 88 supra Rear Speaker Questions

does anyone know what this thing is in front of the rear speaker(the opposite side of where that hole thing is(tweeter?) )...this piece of plastic...anyone know if it would be a good idea to start cuttin at this. i wanna fit a 4x6 in here. and im thinking of making a braket out of wood. what do ya think?

You are looking at the top of the speaker cabinet. Remove the greay trim and you have a box that extends down to almost the floor behind there. Take the panel off and take the boxes out to work on them...makes life far easier.

That hole is a port, it's the same thing they do on Subwoofer boxes to allow better airflow and better use of resonance. This airflow allows the speaker to reacher a better frequency range and sound deeper even though it's a small speaker.

if i were to put the same 4" pioneer speakers in the back...would that mean there would be more lows?i'm talkin good enough sound...yeah i know...four inches...is the back configured differently for speakers to much out more lows? just a question...i probably gonna still try the 4x6 experiment.

For the era, it made 4 inchers quite acceptable as a high end factory system. Times change, and they can't keep up. Still too small. I'd keep running the 4x6, but you might experiment with sealing or leaving the port open. Open should reinforce the dowm low, closed will tighten the sound. Just like sub boxes.
