I don't think wastegate shimming is anything new, but I'm not too familar with it. From what I know, it sounds like you alter the function of the wastegate such that the 'upper limit' of the amount of boost provided is higher, so to speak.
Really old school. The wastegate can only open so far, and by putting the washers in you pretension the spring. Makes it harder to open, and so it won't open quite as far. In smaller amounts, it works brilliantly. In large amounts, you can't vent enough through the wastegate and end up with spiking and boost creep. Used with a stock enhaust, you get 8-9PSI and it does wake up an approximate 11hp per PSI on the CT26.
I ran like that for years...until I started the current upgrades.
you know...an MBC is like 5 bux offa ebay...OR you can make your own with about $1.69 worth of parts from home depot...i love cheap mods...but this is going a little bit 2 an extreme if u ask me...i heard about this when i had my first sup bac in tha day...and it worked great...but now parts are so readily available vs back then, IMHO its kinda pathetic that we still use SOME of these mods...and i stress some...cus some of tha sogi mods rock...
n e ways...just my 2 cents

It compliments an MBC, actually. The WG tends to weaken over the years, and the washers, will allow full boost (MBC or not) to hit a bit sooner. I have 3 washers. Mine came that way from the previous owner.

I'm gonna disagree as it doesn't make sense. The wastegate doesn't control when you get 'full-boost', it simply dictates at what boost level you don't build more boost. By shimming the wastegate, where it would normally open at 6.8psi, it doesn't.
Sure, Wastegates in general tend to get weak over time, but that would just mean that you'd get less overall boost, not that it'd hit later.
