Rim Paint Removal=ShineShine

so i came across this -strip the paint off your stock wheels and make them shine- tutorial. It doesn't seem too hard. has anyone ever done this? i want to see i picture of the wheel when its shiny. anyone got pictures? or would it be a good idea to paint those wheels black/gunmetal? i really don't like the design of those wheels, but im trying to work with them untill i get something new.
thanx

Under the paint they have a machined surface. Those are extensively polished after paint removal.

Not wheel polish...heavy duty polishing. The machine marks are not just mild, but quite deep. Most I remember used abrasives, and machine polishing to get the effect you see in the picture.

You have to work the hell out of it to get 'em like that photo. Not just a simple paint removal and a rub down.

You can get that kind of shine, but you will need to do a lot of work to get there. Start with a buffer and some agressive rubbing compound. Use a dremmil with a buffer tip to get into the saw blade spokes. Then switch to a mild compound with the buffer. Then go to a fine polish compound and finish it off by hand. Then clear coat the rims to protect your polish job. It will take a lot of man hours to do, but it can be done.

before that you are going to want to sand the hell out of them to get the grainy texture off the wheels. They will look 100X better if you make the surfaces smooth first.

Completely re-finishing my mk4 TT wheels was about a 10 hour process, at least.

Take your time and it turns out great.
