89 Turbo Supra starter failure when hot

Decent Premium Bosch rebuilt less than 500 starts and back to the same old problem. Won't activate when the engine shuts down (superheat). Good for maybe two stops around town, then on the third no engagement. I am assuming engine heat expands the solenoid piston and it sticks or the bushing fail due to the heat. Let her sit and cool, she starts right up. Any recommendations?

The term you're looking for is heatsoak, I believe. Not Superheat.

Good ole heat soak. You can put some header wrap or a heat blanket on the starter to help with it.

One other common point is the wiring. A few owners around here have found replacing the starter lead fixes every heat soak type problem they seem to be having. Those with immobilizers tapped in found it first, likely as corrosion in the copper increased resistance. Most of the wires even looked visually acceptible, but the replacement solved it.

Thanks

I will try the wiring. It makes sense due to the condition of the wiring harness. If that fails, I will try my local rebuilder, or just move onto another starter that I found with a heat shield.

Thanks again.

Yea you can make a hrdwire directly to the battery as a ground type deal and definetly make a heat shroud or wrap on it. Mine did that for a while until i did the above stated and havent had a problem since.
