2007 Toyota Supra Available As: Compact Coupe Target Release Date:
2007 What Edmunds.com Says:
Toyota could use some more exciting cars in its lineup and a new Supra should do the trick.
What We Know: Lexus has stolen much of Toyota's sportscar thunder with the unveiling of the LF-A concept, but that doesn't mean that a more affordable Supra replacement isn't still in the works. Although it's not likely to share many parts with the more expensive LF-A, Toyota's new sportscar should have plenty of performance thanks to a high powered V6 that will produce at least 300 horsepower. The 2007 Toyota Supra could go on sale as early as 2006.
I'm not holding my breath. After the last thread about this I asked the dealers in my area about it. If there is a new Supra due out this summer/fall then they don't know about it.

Based on the dropping sales over the years, it will probably end up hurting Toyota to make another supra.
Im not sure about that. I would imagine that a lot of people who were into supra's a while back would hop on to buying one. The main factor would be price and numbers the car puts down....

the supra sales were down when they were produced But the whole 'import scene' is at a peak right now. and with movies like fast and the furious the supra name is pretty popular too. i dont know if any of the rumors are true. but i could see toyota trying to cash in on the supra name while its hot.
Supra owners would only purchase a new supra in any numbers if it had the same qualities ours already have...and that would price Toyota hell and gone past 50k, which is perhaps the single largest reason after SUV's becoming status symbols as to why they couldn't sell em in the first place. Supra owners wanted a full on GT coupe with gobs of power/power potential and all the creature comforts for riding in style. The only way they get an affordable car is to cut back on something...
no creature comforts=out of the market, likely a flop.
big motor tiny box=again, where's the luxury? If I wanted a celica with a big motor...oh wait, they don't make them anymore
As to this thread, just regurgitating the same old stories. Just like the sticky was designed for at the top...same pics and reviews as were out there years back.
Badge it as a lexus and it might sell for some $$$, badge it as a toyota and put a high asking price on it and I can't see it selling. It won't be a true supra, I can't see current supra owners switching.

Bob
reminds me of the new VW bug when it came out. thought it would have to be cheap, short on luxurys and small to appeal to the original owners. the thing cost a fortune has every gizmo you can think of in it and its huge(to me). the bug is selling like crazy too all to people who most likely never owned or even would consider owning an original bug.
a new supra could work with the inport market eating up civics and eclipse etc. all the affordabel 'sport' compact cars are the rage right now. it doenst have to have all the hp in the world. just needs the right look and be quick to sell. the supra wouldnt compete with the likes of corvetes in price or performance. they could reintroduce the supra as a step up over the matrix and fill a nitch in the tuner market right now. toyota is lacking a mid range sports car right now to compete with the others like the mustang or new camaro.
i wouldnt be interested in a new supra though no matter the cost.

Sports cars and the like are also less than 10% of the automotive market.
There is a reason Toyota is becoming one of the largest auto companies in the world with their current lineup

it will probably end up hurting Toyota to make another supra.
because when it first came out, it was like $50,000, right?? thats the twin turbo one with only 320 hp?? tsk tsk, with 50K, most american will buy a corvette with 400 hp, or a more luxury title like mercedes, lexus, bmw, etc...
now this new generation supra. toyota finally got the price to horsepower ratio down and this car is just gonna be awesome!
