GT Turbos used on the 2JGTE ?

Hi all , I am curious to know how Garretts GT40 series turbos go on the 3L twin cam 6 . I really want to know how the ball bearing GT4088R performs ie when it spools on manual cars . These are supposed to be very good for their size .

Cheers Adrian .

Discopotato - i can let you know in 3-5 weeks. I got that turbo here waiting to go on my car. Just ordering all the parts i need first before i start. .72a/r on comp. side and .95 on turbine side for my gt40r

I havent seen to much info on the characteristics of the gt40r on the supra yet. Theres a bit of info about it on supraforums, theres alot about the gt40-82 tho and some other variation of the gt40. You should check it out.

Its got a 64.5mm turbine so its not exactly a real big turbo either. But will make damn good power. Ive heard it should spool quite a bit quicker then your typical t66/pt67 turbos (with small a/r's) and make the same or more hp earlier in the powerband.

I have a gt40-82 on a 3.0L 7M, I don't know if the info would be usefull to you or not since the spool times on a 7M and a 2J are pretty different but possitive boost at 2500rpm and full boost (18psi+) at 3600-3700rpm. This is with a .81a/r. Stock head, stock intake manifold, tubular exhaust manifold, 50mm wastegate.

This version of the GT40 is slightly smaller than the version you are looking at but since the one you are looking at is ball bearing it should have spool times the same or quicker than the 82mm version.

As far as power goes with the gt40-88, a guy in Long Island, NY made 561whp @21psi (pump gas). The turbo will take 30psi easily.

HTH.

^ theres a guy on supraforums with the gt4088r making 652 rwhp @ 26 psi on a stock engine. Using a .58a/r on the compressor side and .85a/r on the turbine side.
