fan shroud?

my fan shroud got caught in my fan and threw it through my radiator.... my question is ... do you really need it?

Yes, without the shroud the fan will not pull air through the radiator. It will end up pulling air arround it instead.

Look on supraforums/supramania or ebay for used ones from people parting out cars. Toyota still has them available, but I'm sure it won't be cheap!

They are there for a reason. If the shroud isn't actually in place the air will come from around the radiator rather than through it. Keep in mind that air, like all other fluids, will follow the path of least resistance.

did all years have the shroud? I've noticed that some engines don't and I have an 1986.5 N/A and there is no shroud...

huh....oh well...she runs fine without it. i'll probably pull one off a junkyard car orget an electric fan if i have heat issues.
