Too much fuel? May be oxygen sensor, or you may have a leak in the intake system.

Intake, If you have to worry about smog, get the K&N as it has a carb certification.

too much fuel could be anything. i would say vacuum leak for a starting point. smoke tester will tell you right away where your vacuum leak is if you so have one.

oh, you might check your injector o rings and test your injectors, one might be stuck open or partially open.

You might also want to check the Mass Air Flow sensor. It sends the signal for the injectors to open according to how much air it is taking it.

Won't help him pass a smog test.

What are you failing on? Hydrocarbons (HCO), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Carbon Dioxide (CO2)?

High HCO's are caused by partially unburnt fuel, in short, you're running too rich. Leanning it up some would reduce those HCO emissions. Is the O2 new/good? etc.

No, Idle Speed Control doesn't have anything to do with it.

Also yesterday i let my friend drive the car and when he drove it the exhuast would send out smoke is that because the exhuast is old because when it idles u can hear it rattle on the inside or is that another problem. I know it doesnt burn oil and it runs perfectly fine.

I already explained it for you,
Quote:

Because Catalytic Converters break down HCO's and CO into CO2 & H2O, if it's dead it might not be breaking down the HCO's well.
