CT20 to CT26 Turbo Swap

My 86 pickup is currently burning through oil like it's a 2 stroke so from what I'm being told it's looling like the turbo's to be blaimed for this. I could find out for sure by removing the turbo but since it's my daily driver I'd rather not mess with it until I get replacement parts, I'm not experiencing any noticable preformance loss and it's been this way for awhile so it will hopefully hold until I can replace it. The factory turbo is a CT20 which is considered by most to be a glorified paperweight due to reliablity issues, the life expectancy is 60,000 miles so I should be lucky it's gotten this far packing 115,000 miles. I'm looking at purchasing a CT26 turbo and with light modification fitting it to my 22RTE. The CT26 turbo that I'm looking for came in a MA70 Toyota Supra with a 7M-GTE, it's not to be confuse with the dual entry version that was found on the MR2 and Celica. There is a fair amount of information out there for this swap but I don't anticipate it to be a walk in the park due to my inexperience dealing with turbos. If anyone knows of a link or has first hand experience of this conversion I'd appreciate any help I could get. I could also use a line on purchasing a CT26 turbo as the only turbos I can find are missing the internal/intergral wastegate actuator which is a necessary component for the swap.

Thank you,
EdgeX

CT-26 may be a big turbo upgrade for your truck. It should be a fairly easy swap if you can get an adpater made for the bolts to the manifold (if required), and of course you will need a down pipe grafting the 26's outlet to the rest of the exhaust you already have.

The water and oil lines you would take from the 26 and find a way to match the truck's lines up with hoses, and the oil retrun you may need to hacked each in 2 and splice the 26's turbo side to the 20's side where it attaches to the block.

I rarely see 26's without the actuators...try the for sale section of supramania.com, or if you have an account, supraforums.

Thanks,

Bob

Just sell it and get a Taco. The CT26 swap has been done. I haven't really looked into the specifics of it. I do know that your boost threshold, the point at which you start to make boost, is shifted much higher in the RPM band. I would contact LC Engineering. They are the 22R gurus. Other places to look for info would be TTORA, Pirate 4X4 and Yotatech.
