1jz, and 2jz questions

Sorry I'm a noob, but I got a buddy talkin some smack, and I've got that feelin he don't know what the hell he's talkin about. I've searched the hell out of these forums and can't find the info i'm looking for so I got a couple questions. Hopefully the pros can answer for me

What is the difference between the 1jz-gte, and the 2jz-gte? Do the numbers stand for how many turbos, or is it there generation? or what.

What kind of times do stock twin turbo, and single supras pull? Time and mph please.

If you have links to this kind of info please post up and save your fingers

Thanks

The 1JZGTE is a 2.5L twin turbo I6. The 2JZGTE is a 3.0L version of the same motor.

I have seen mostly stock MK IVs running in the 14s.

A stock Twin Turbo supra only runs 14's?

My buddy was tellin me 12's.

There is no way of telling how many turbos by the engine code, but only by looking under the hood then??

The 2JZ was twin only. 1JZs started out with twins, but the late 90s models found in Soarers (SC 300) had a single with VVTI.

With a few upgrades a MK IV can run 12s, but it isn't going to happen in stock trim. Do the math 300 HP + 3500 lb car does not =12s.

So 2jz's where only TT 3.0's, never made single with vvt-i ?

1jz's where TT 2.5's, but towards what years did they make it single with VVT-i??

I understand the math I just want to make sure about the 14's. I saw one run the other night, and it trapped @95mph. We only show the mph, and do instant green starts for our street car event called Midnight Mayhem that we do out at Cordova Dragway Park. It runs from 11pm-4am plus we have t-n-t every friday from 6-10pm.

So he must of been close to stock then, I figured the kid couldn't drive. First time I've seen a Supra in action.

Thanks for the info

2JZ's were 2997cc (~3.0L), Twin Turbo. 98 (n/a's) and upward Mk4's can be found with VVT-I, but they are mainly overseas, not here in the US. Mk4's were never made Single turbo, but could be converted to single for more power.

1JZ's were 2491cc (~2.5L). They were commonly Twin Turbo, but certain late years were made in single turbo for Soarer's & Chaser's overseas, these aren't common. The 1jz was never available to the continental US as they were largely 2.5L to save on taxes where cars are taxed on displacement. When they went single turbo, it was with VVT-I (which is a pain in the ass to tune with) and the Turbo was a CT-26 (IIRC).
