Accel ignition

I just installed ( tried to ) an Accel 300+ ignition module and coil in my 1983 Supra to replace the old ignitor. I can get it to fire but it will not stay running. The directions state to hook a purple wire to the + magnetic pickup and a orange wire to the - pickup but heck if I can find out which is which since there are 3 wires comming from the distributor, yellow, white and black.
Also since I took out the old ignitor and coil theres a bunch of unhooked connections. Could my ECU be overiding the system ????
Any help would be great.

supra ignition

It will run 1-2 seconds maybe. I called accel tech support and they told me I needed a secondary trigger, hooked to the original coil, then to the new coil and then the new control box ??????. When I checked the part ( jacobs 380468) it states it does not work on magnetic pickups. The whole thing did not make sense since I am trying to replace the original coil and ignitor.
looking in the service manual I see there are 2 seperate pickups in the distributor, 1 for starting, 1 for running it looks like.
Anyway I put the old ignitor back in with the new coil. it started and ran fine a few times but then quit starting again. I checked and there is no spark at the distributor. Does this sound like an ignitor problem ?????
Thanks for any suggestions

While I'm here

Does anyone know a way to replace the original ignitor system with something a little more cost effective on an 83 5MGE Supra ????
The car cost me $400.00, I do not feel like spending $500.00 for an ignitor.
