2nd Generation Shifter?

Does anybody know how to take the shifter off of a 1985 Supra?? I plan to shorten it but not sure how to get it off..

They unbolt from the top of the tail housing. It helps to tilt the transmission back so you have some room to work.

The easiest way to shorten it also woul be to get out a torch and heat it up ,There is only a rubber kinda stuff inside it as a vibration absorber.Then pull off the top peice with some pliers..This will shorten the shifter by about 2-3 inches..Then just thread the end of it for some more grip and install a new shifter,Your old one will not fit anymore but you will be able to use any aftermaket one now..

I have never been a fan of that mod. You don't actually get a short throw shifter. You just get a short shifter. The pivot point remains the same.
