I just bought an 84 supra from a relative who claims he dropped about 5 grand into the engine a few years back. He said it then went to his son in Oregon, but to pass emissions test and stuff, had to really "tune it back" and that there is tons of power in it. He said he had it built for a blower, yet I see NO blowers or turbos anywhere for this model supra. He also claimed it was extremely fast as is, just needed to have what was done to tune it down, reversed.
My question....can this 2.8 litre really even be capable of the power he's claiming? He bragged of destoying cars....WITHOUT the blower. I can understand it being built in the bottom end to support a blower, but that in itself doesn't create power does it? Doesn't it take the actual forced induction to create the power?
I can't imagine how you could dump $5,000 into one. I am running forged internals, all new head/head work, balanced bottom end, all new clevite bearings, ALL ARP hardware, Metal Head Gasket. and rod bushings. Only thing I don't have is rods, and WITH parts AND labor, I'm sub-$2500.
I can't tell you what he's done with this mystical $5,000. Gimme a parts list and I can tell you it's actually got something.

Who came up with this 500px wide BS?
Got the specs, it looks like more than anything it was a total engine rebuild, saw a few performance items on there, but nothing to give it the power he claimed. It does appear to be set up to handle some power though......SO HOW DO I DO THAT????
I never see any parts available for a 84 per se, so what are my options. I'm quite limited mechanically at this point although I'm working on it. Can turbo be added to this engine? Not looking for anything monstrous as its going to be just a daily driver.

I believe Aaron at Rabidchimp.com sells a twin turbo kit from a 1JZ-GTE for the 5M motor. You may wanna check his site out.
there is no way to 'tune it back' a factory 5m; I'm 90% sure he's blowing smoke up your @$$. The chances of him having put a blower on there are pretty slim...don't get me wrong it's been done but not by many people. What are the specs that you talk about? How does it appear to be able to handle some power?
Turboing a 5m and reliability are 2 words you don't hear too often...it's been done but eventually the motor self destructs. Cheapest way to do it is to grab a factory mk3: turbo; manifold and intercooler and bolt it on your 5m. With that you'll be somewhere in the 180-200 rwhp range
What do you really want out of the mk2? Is it your daily driver? A Mk2 with an intake and exhaust can be a wickedly fun to drive...you're not going to win any drags but your wallet will thank you.
