USA New to Supras....

First off I just wanna say that im a proud new owner of a 91 7mgt-e supra, coming from a hardcore ford/mustang man that should say something(owned and raced 4 of them). Actually I just recently got rid of my 95 GT mustang to buy this supra to work on but im running into a couple of problems....

I have a turbo seal leak in the stock CT26, which was install in place of a T4 after it blew...this isnt what im currently worried about though, right now i have a annoying overheating problem that doesnt seem to make much sense apart from a possible thermostat failure. What happens is ill drive the car around the block and the temp gauge(stock) will creep to the red then flutter a little be downward and back up and stand there. Once I turn off the car and pop the hood you can heard a high pitched squeeling(video attached below) like air trying to escape the radiator, also at this time the top radiator hose is ROCK HARD.

I already did the basic dianogstic and ran the codes, I got a code 22 and a code 52. I was thinking of changing the thermostat at the sametime i change the turbo this weekend. Suggestions?

Umm....
We have some problems here...

1) The CT26 uses it's own style mount, it's not T4 based.. therefore, you can't blow a T4 and put a CT26 back on in it's place.

2) In the video, I can't hear much above the electric fan.

3) Error Codes:
Code 22 - Water Temp Sensor Signal, Open or short circuit in water temp sensor signal. Seems pretty self explanitory, should be one of the sensors in the thermostat housing.

Code 52 - Knock Sensor Signal, Open or short circuit in knock sensor signal. This is a dreaded code. People HATE this one, it will make the car run like ass, and you essentially have to check your knock sensors and rewire them. Here are a few links:

http://supras.com/06/techcenter/display.php?QID=69

4) Temp Issue. It could be any of a number of things. Air bubbles in the cooling system will do that, it could also be that with your electric fan isn't pulling enough air and can't cool down the radiator. Lookin' 'em up, here's what I see:

Quote:
GREDDY RADIATOR FAN
DESCRIPTION DIA. TYPE DEPTH SPL NOTES PART# LIST$
9" ELEC. PUSH FAN 9" push 57mm 22.5km/hr, 2180rpm, 12V-4A 12004000 $144.25
9" ELEC. PULL FAN 9" pull 57mm 22.5km/hr, 2180rpm, 12V-4A 12004001 $144.25
12" ELEC. PULL FAN 12" pull 63mm 22.5km/hr, 2180rpm, 12V-4A 12004003 $154.50
14" ELEC. PULL FAN 14" pull 88mm 30.5km/hr, 1700rpm,12V-6.5A 12004005 $175.00
TWIN 12" PULL FAN KIT 2x 12" pull 63mm includes: Multi Switching System 12004103 $515.00
TWIN 14" PULL FAN KIT 2x 14" pull 88mm includes: Multi Switching System 12004105 $545.95
Well, I know for a fact that Most Mk3 owners run a Flex-a-lite 210 setup as it pulls great CFM, but it's a pair of 12" fans. So, I'd say anything less than a pair of 12" fans and you're not getting enough air across it. I can't find flow ratings, so I can't say which sucks, but my guess is it's not getting enough air. Also sounds like you could have air in the system, AND you've got a loose or shorted temp sensing circuit somewhere. Having a large intercooler (thick) would only make this worse too.

Now the bigger problem is this. If you've been overheating this engine, you've potentially warped the head, leading yourself (if you haven't already) to get a BHG. Remember that the thermal expansion/contraction rates for Aluminum and Iron are very different. Due to this issue, when you overheat the block/head one will move, when the other won't at the same rate, this severely and prematurely increases your chances of getting a BHG. Many owners claim that even ONE trip into the red on the thermostat can indicate a warped head.

Question for ya, I know the Mk4 Supra LSD's don't fit the Mk3's. How'd you get one in there?

thanks for the help, im gonna go test some of the wires for power and get one of those pressure relieving radiator caps and see if that helps, and when the T4 was installed a had a a different manifold installed because it wont fit the stock flange manifold(obviously).
