New supra

Hi, i just bought an 89 supra 5 spd, targa, but the problem? Its not under boost. I used the search button first but i couldnt find any info on how to turbo charge it, so i was hoping one of you guys could answer my question. I mean, besides the compression ratio, exhaust piping, turbo, and ecu, arent the gte and the ge the same engine?

They are very similar, but like the MKII supra owners, there's a little more involved than slapping on the turbo and driving away.

Fuel control...you run smaller injectors than the turbo cars. You have no provisions for boost operations (ie the idle stabilizer backflow valve is not on an NA car). You basically need to acquire the odds and ends that are different, and then install various fuel control devices (safc avcr etc.).

Yea, i figured there would be alot of little stuff, im just seeing if the major parts like the header and exhaust parts would fit. The other crap i could source myself, but i really didnt want to fab up my own exhaust piping. So what would i need though to get the ecu to accept boost? Would i be able to correct it with a chip, or the apexi safc?

an addon fuel computer should be able to handle the job to a certain extent, but everything bolts right up in terms of manifolds and such. All depends on whether you can tune in enough fuel while under boost

The GE lacks oil coolers in the block itself, something that for higher boost levels is claimed to be 'essential'.

The best bang for your buck mod you can do, is swap a 7M-GTE into it.

How old are you?

General rule, strike "soon" from your vocabulary. Speed takes time and money, skimping on either is a good way to get yourself into bad scenarios.

Well, the GE will never be 'screaming'. I've seen plenty of people drop thousands into it, for minimal gain. To top that, in today's world, you can get better performance from a Neon, AND better gas mileage. The N/A I6 7MGE just isn't worth it.
