Engines knocking and Ignition repair

I am going to buy a 1985 supra for around $200 and decide to put a little more money in it.
They problem with the car is that the engine knocks and the ignition is torn out because someone stole it.

What do you think is causing the engine to knock and how much would it be to fix that?

and also how much do you think itll cost to fix the ignition?
without labor.

Thanks

Actually The Car was stolen before it started knocking, well thats what he said.

Also it is a very good idea to take off the cam housing covers and examine the cam lobes. If they are scored, chances are the engine was running low on oil.
Eliminate all possibilities of the knocks made by external components. The engine with heavy dull knock similar to the one produced by the sledge hiting the concrete is a sure candidate to replacement. According to the rebuilders opinion, these engines are very hard to rebuild in the shop conditon.
hmm, cleaning the engine? that seems hard???
