Question Will a 2JZ-GTE fit in a 82-86 or 86 1/2-92 Supra?

I am mainly a 4cyl Toyota person but seen recently a few good deals on some 2JZ-GTS motors and like the 82-86 Supra body lines and also the 86 1/2-92 are very affordable around where I live. I am just wondering if the Motor/Tranny will fit in either of these body styles to make a low cost driver with a 2JZ-GTE in it.

Thanks

Yes they will fit. Low cost...ummmm....not so much depending on your ability to fabricate

What is a 2JZ-GTS?

The 2JZ's will fit with a good deal of modifications into the 89-92 Supras (and the 86.5-89's with even more work), I've heard of them in Mk2's but that seems to be quite rare.

Sorry, I meant 2JZ-GTE. Not sure what happend there?? lol. Well, I have seen them listed for $1000-$1200 US but with Automatics, near where I live. The only thing I know they drop into is a Lexus 300 series or 93-up Supra. Little hard to pick one of those up cheap as of yet. So what would be more cool than an 80's Supra Packing a 2JZ-GTE??..

Thanks

Dropping the motor in isn't that hard. Its the wires that will get you. If you can splice the harness, and have some fab skill to crank out some simple motor mounts it will fit. The 89+ is what you want, but you can use an 86.5-88 with an 89+ subframe. The subframe is not that hard to change out. That is what I did for my 1JZ swap. I think the motor mounts ended up costing about $30 for a little plate steel. Then just use the round style 89+ rubber lower mount. It drops in no sweat.

You wouldn't need just the engine, you'd need a whole front cut with the wiring harness and such.

Most of the motors for sale come with engine, harness, ECU, and trans. Going this route you need to pick up a few odds and ends, but it is not like you are starting with a bare long block. I have been tracking JDM 2JZ prices on e-bay for a while now. They have fallen to around $1800 or so these days. Some even come with start up warranties. The market is flooded with the damn things. It seems that the craze is finally starting to die down and prices are beginning to come back to reasonable levels.

NA's are getting close, with some coming down to 10k or so...big turbo 7M swap time is not too far off. I intend to roll into the Vegas Meet when it happens just to enjoy seeing MKIV owners projectile vomit all over themselves

Buddy of mine just picked up a white, hardtop single turbo 6spd outta CA.
That thing is HOT. However, $24k > $5k.

I like OWNING my cars
