My Tercel has to be retired, which put me on the market for a new vehicle. My buddy was selling his 1988 Supra Turbo 5-speed. The engine needs to be put together (the heads are off) which gives me the perfect time to take the block down to the machine shop to be honed and checked. The front driver's fender needs replacing as someone crushed it at one time...
As far as headgaskets go...I found an HKS 1.2mm headgasket. Is that a good one or is there a better one someone suggests? I have big plans for this car (once I get it running that is hahah)... i'll post pictures as soon as I get some (and the car to my house at that LOL)
I've never heard of problems with the HKS gasket...there are thousands of them out there. The trick is that your machinist is familiar with the tolerances required for metal gaskets. If they work on a lot of late model cars, they should have the expertise, but ask anyhow.
Some argue the Greddy is a better gasket design as it does not restrict the water passages. The HKS does, although it is a copy of the original Toyota one that does the same thing. More of a personal preference thing IMO. For what it's worth, I'll be purchasing whichever one ships faster when I put the engine together next year.
hmmm...maybe i'll go for the GReddy one... better safe than sorry LOL. Yeah the guy I am going to is very excellent when it comes to tolerances...everyone I know goes to him
The greddy is far better, but last time I checked there was a 6-8 week wait time to get one. They're hard to come by, where as the HKS's are more common than OEM ones.
