I think the you are really asking the wrong questions. You first need to figure out what your performance goals are. How is the car going to be used? If it will spend most of its time on the street (which most cars do) then you should be looking small, not big. The biggest mistake you can make is to get hooked on the idea of a big HP number. HP means nothing. Sure a big turbo makes big top end, and looks really neat when you pop the hood, but at the cost of low end power and drivability. This means that in most driving situations you will be driving a 3500 lb car with a low compression 2.5L engine. The car will be a slug. The only place a big turbo does you any good is on the dyno. Even on the drag strip a big turbo will hurt you. You should be looking smaller for low end and mid band power. On the street driving in trafic it is all low end driving. On the drag strip you want a fatter mid band TQ to accelerate you down the track.
So, before tying to pick a turbo, you need to first identify 2 really important things:
1. How will you use the car?
2. How much are you looking to spend?
