my daily driver plans

i an planning on getting a 1988 or 1989 Toyota Supra Turbo 5-speed with 7MGTE sometime next spring. I want to keep the stock motor. i will be getting it milled and new metal HKS head gasket. i will also be rebuilding pretty much the whole motor. My goal is to get about 4-500 HP from this motor. Is it possible? i would like a great street fighter car but one which i can take to the strip also cause they might make an 1.8th and 1/4 mile strips around me. but my goal is 4 or 500 hp from the 7MGTE...is this a reachable goal and what kinda work do you think needs done...

With the plans you have that power level is entirely possible. You can use a stock toyota block, rods and pistons with the metal gasket and drive it till the cows come home if you keep the fuel tuned properly. Let me recommend you also get the head ported and polished to improve flow. At the top end, that is where it needs the help. Cams are optional, but will see benefits in that range. You won't be doing it on a factory turbo though. Expect to get a new turbo, I recommend the GT35R for great spool on the street and more than enough top end. Electronics are going to be needed, and at that level, a piggyback like the MAFT-PRO would do the trick, or perhaps standalone if you have the finances. Stock fuel is also going to be an issue, so an upgraded pump is in order. A walboro in tank should do you, but an external is also a decent choice at that stage of the game. Gives you a little more room to grow that way too.

sweet..thanks for you inputheres what i was thinking:
1. GT35R turbo from your suggestion
2.Bigger injectors
3.MAFT-PRO
4.Walboro pump.
5. along with milling the head and block a P&P
6.3inch turbo back exhaust
7. intake idk yet

so the stock internals should take it fine..thats great news..but im still gonna rebuild it i guess with all the stockers..i want something that will beat all these stupid A$$ ricer kids around here and ive wanted a supra for a long time. Im going to a school called Wyotech, its an automotive school and i plan on taking it there and working on it and when i bring it home and i get a decent job i would hope it only take about 2 years to finish my goal..what about the rear end..like diff and driveshaft??and the tranny..will it handle it?

It really depends how you define lag. Some people don't mind full spool at 4K or higher which the T60 ish turbos start at. I want to come on boost as close to the CT26 as possible...and the GT35R certainly does it. After all, on the streets, how often are you 4k or higher without getting pulled over.

Any time you step on it off boost, remember that you are trying to accelerate a 3500lb car with a 120hp NA low compression engine...it certainly won't give you any jump if you run stoplight to stoplight. Now, if you spend a lot of time at the track, and want to build it for that purpose, the larger turbos are going to put down better ET's.

PSI is irrelevant. Stock internals commonly take people into the 400-500 range quite reliably. beyond that, most people go with at least pistons and shot peined stock rods, though really if you have good fuel management, the pistons are optional IMO. The only thing that kills a piston is detonation.
