I think I remember reading on supras.com that that's a somewhat common issue for that gen. Just needs a new charcoal cannister or something. Too busy at work to double check that now, sorry.

Try to take the car to a mechanic and put it on a hoist, you should be able to smell it better under the car if it's a gas line, and if it's not then it probably would be the gas tank..

if it is/was a gas line, you would be empty wihtin 10 minutes, as the fuel line is under about 30psi pressure, and will empty the tank rather quickly if there is any big leak.

if it is just a smell of gas, then maybe it is the canister, or a vacumm line going to or coming from it is cracked.

you could also have a loose fuel rail letting gas out by the injector o-rings.

you could also have a clogged air filter, and the engine is running so rich, you can smell the gas.

if you don't know much about cars, you should go to a mechanic. gas leaks are not something you wanna "fuel" around with. lol

are there any other fuel tanks from other cars that would fit in an MKIII? I'm assuming that all MKIII's fuel tanks are the same size and shape so correct me if I'm wrong.

When I discovered my leaking gas tank I wanted to buy an aftermarket one. Toyota was selling the OEM gas tank for $700 CA and no aftermaket manufacturer made them for AE92's so I was left with only one solution, rebuild my own tank. And that's exactly what I did.

what about the lines? I heard that once the lines are removed from the gas tank, it usually has to be replaced especially on older cars due to corrosion. $250 doesn't sound bad to me especially if you want to keep the car for a while.
