yes it is.
the coolant blows out the rad and overflows the reservior. later when the rad cools, the rad cap allows coolant to be sucked back into the rad from the reservior, but there is not enough in it because of the overflow condition, so it is all sucked back in, and then the low coolant reservior light comes on.
this is a sign of coolant leaking out of the system somewhere. in your case, you know it is bubbling out of the reserviour. this will lead you to believe it is the gasket, as suprabadboy has been saying.
i never said it wasnt a BHG, but it is good to do sufficient testing to determine this, not see one symptom and jump to conclusions.
do all the test that have been suggested, document what you can, and try to get the mechanic to see it your way. get other supra owners who are local to you to help in the battle as well. mechanics always assume they are right, because they are the mechanics, and ofcourse, he doesn't want to redo a job for free either.
