Unusual 7M-GE

Hi, this is my first post here, I just bought a JDM 7M-GE that is supposed to have come from a Mk III Supra. Now that I have recieved the engine I realize that the harness is not from a Supra. The AFM is a Karman vortex type (which I beleive was fitted only to 7M-GTEs on the Supra) and the part number on the engine control computer indicates it is for the MS-137 Crown. Was this engine just thrown together from odd parts or does anyone know if the 7M-GE on the Crown came with the vortex air flowmeter.

Photo would be your best bet. I've never seen a karman vortex on a 7M-GE.

I did a web search and found this photo of a MS-137 engine bay, it is not really clear but the AFM looks like a karman vortex http://www.mykp.co.uk/crown/opener.a...age=engine_bay

Yup...that does look like a KV sensor...not a flapper style normally on a 7M

I'd have to agree. Never knew there was a 7M-GE that wasn't flapper style.

the 7MGE ECU will NOT understand any signals coming from a KV sensor. that picture is too small to tell whether it's the usually GE flapper, or a GTE Karman Vortex sensor.

if the person is running turbo electronics, the KV sensor would work fine. then again, i see no point to doing so unless they had plans to turbo the 7MGE down the road.

The KV sensor on my engine is the original sensor, I uncovered the part number hidden under grime and it is 22250-42100. My EPC identifies this as from the 7MGE off the MS13#. So as least one model of 7MGE came with the KV. Thanks to all of those who replied.

that's so weird. that means that a 7mge supra ECU couldn't read the signal from it. you'd need either a GTE ECU, or the ECU that's supposed to go with that car stock.
