you need to check the codes. behind the battery, you will see a DIAG diagnostic port. it is black plastic, about 1 inch by 1 inch. pop it open.

in side, you will see a bunch of terminals. put a short wire, or paperclip between t and e1.

then get in the supra, and turn ignition to on, but do not start.

the check engine light will flash. count the groups of flashes

3...2.......5...6.......2....1...............3..2. ......5..6.........2...1 repeating...

this tells you the codes 32,56,and 21 are stored in your computer. goto supras.com and check what the codes mean, and what you need to fix.

need help check engine

I have a 99 Corolla. My check engine light stays on most of the time. It started about two weeks after I had it inspected on the same day I filled the tank with gas. I bought a new gas cap. Days later I disconnected the battery for 15 minutes, hoping the computer would reset itself. I took it to a mechanic, who checked everything but could not find a reason for the light to come on. He asked me to bring the car back so that he can check if the code changed after we started driving it and the light came back on. Any thoughts?

the knock sensors are tough. i have never fixed them in either of my supras, but my red one is throwing that code now as well. there are 2 knock sensors, on the drive side of the engine, near the furl rail. they are a pain in the arse to get to.

most of the time, the sensor is fine, and it is the cable that has a short it in due to the age and searing heat in the engine. people have replaced them with heavy duty co-axial cable wire, and move on to other problems.

if you go check out www.supras.com, follow the link to the TSRM(Toyota Service and Repair Manual), you can print off exact instructions to fix and replace the knock sensors or cable.

cheeeers. ben
p.s. after you get your done, how bout coming over to help me with mine.
