2nd Generation '86 Digital Dash

Hey guys,

I've got a buddy of mine that is looking at picking up a '86 Supra for $1800. We just got back from looking at it. The body is really nice as is the drivetrain but it has the notorious digital dash in it. Unfortunately, the speedometer doesn't work.

Does anyone know as to why these usually dont work and possibly how to fix it?

Thanks

Nick

This is probably a poor website for such specific detailed information. Sorry.

I dont know how to fix it but here the link for an online shop manual.

It's probably easier to find one in a j/y. Analog won't work and celica unit won't work with the dizzy signal. The rest would be fine though.

2nd Generation

Have you bothered to look to see if the cable is broke or even hooked up??? Yes they are cable driven and use an internal sending unit to convert it into a digital signal and then display it.. You can do a Analog dash swap.. Although you cannot i repeat cannot do a Analog to digital swap.. Or atleast it cant be done on a small to medium budget.. It may also be as simple as finding another gauge cluster and see if that works.. It may have a broken LCD or shorted out board..

Digital dashes from a long time ago don't really tend to be reliable. I had a digital dash on my Nissan 240 and it was a common problem for the digital guages to malfunction.
