Canada MK3 TwinTurbo Supra's?

Hey guy's im in the process of buying a NEW summer car, currently i'm looking at 1991 RHD Supra from Japan ( i'm in Toronto ) and the car is already in Canada. I have 3 too choose from all of which are identical apart from the paint. The seller said it's a 1JZ GTTE Manual Twin Turbo with 110k.
I heard the mk3's has an issue dealing with the head gasket, i don't know much about supra's yet so i just wanted to check up on a forum and ask some questions before i make a decision . The seller is asking inbetween 4-$6,000.
Thank's in advanced!

Is this a dealer or private seller?

I have read a bit in other forum some people changing the head gasket but for 7M engines.

Haven't seen head gasket problems with the 1JZ.

here some info incase changing the head gasket:

Quote:
2JZ is 20mm higher in the block. Heads are the same thickness, that about where the likness ends.

2J and 1J have the same size valves.

2J has 3mm wider intake ports and 2 mm wider exhaust ports.TOTALLY different stud spacing for both manifolds.

2J has larger combustion chamber. They are the same depth in the chamber but the 1J has raised sections at the front and back of the cylinder.

Head gasket will swap but 2J's have a large relief around the combustion chamber. Unsure whether a 2j head gasket has a corresponding cut out piece.

2J and 1J share the same lift cams.(unsure of duration)

The factory toyota HG is a 1.8-2.0mm three layer metal.
here is some more info:

Quote:
Q: Does the 1JZ have any weak points or downfalls?
A: The ceramic turbines of the CT12A twin turbochargers commonly shatter when pushed over 14psi. This either happens by sheer pressure OR by the turbocharger heating enough to melt the resin that holds the nut which holds the compressor turbine on the shaft. The nut comes loose and the compressor either wobbles and shatters, or flies off of the shaft and breaks. It then CAN make it's way through some of your intake piping [ouch] if you are really unlucky. The head gasket tends to blow at over 1.6 bar [23.5psi] and the car doesn't have the extra 1/2 liter of displacement like the 7M or 2JZ. This can be tinkered with [see next question].

Q: What is a 1.5JZ-GTE?
A: In Japan, many owners of 1JZ engines have replaced their worn 1JZ short blocks with a 2JZ short block, which can be put in your car with the 1JZ head bolted down on it to produce a 3.0 liter "1.5JZ-GTE" engine. It can be done because the 1JZ and 2JZ share the same bore size and spacing. This will yield the extra displacement found in the 2JZ, and is an excellent alternative when considering a full rebuild as the 2JZ short blocks are readily available in the USA through Toyota, Suprastore.com and powerhouseracing.com, as well as other suppliers.

Q: I am having trouble with my 1JZ install project. Where can I find more help on this subject?
A: Here are some more links I have gathered with 1JZ swap information.

http://groups.msn.com/1jzgtemk3/home.htm
http://www.1jz-gte.us
http://www.jzgte.com/tech/
http://www.jza70.com/articles/swap_t...he_basics.html

I hope this can help you.

Good luck!

Thats Correct Razo-E!

so, 92TRDCamRy don't trip when you open the hood and see this

its a 1G-GTE.

Has anyone seen an imported supra with this engine roaming around T.O.?

I always see the 1JZ supra but I haven't come across a 1G Supra.

I haven't seen one, but there are a couple in Canada. Last few I saw posted around were trying to sell for the same money as 1J's, and only listed them as "twin turbos". They probably imported them through a shady company, or didn't know what they were buying themselves and are trying to pass them off now that they understand they got the sucker motor.

I guess it's not a sucker motor if unique is all you wanted, or you were trying to build your own "supra collection". I wouldn't bother with it for a performance platform at any rate.

1G-GTE Supras are the epitome of anemic from everyone I've ever talked to?
