I thought that the 280 hp for the JDM Supra was either a "gentleman's aggreement" or maybe even a law in Japan, that no car would have over 280 hp, so guess what, the Supra has 280 hp, the Skyline has 280 hp. In reality, the power was very close to USDM Supras though with some "significant" mechanical/elect differences as nicely outlined above.

Once you start moding and increasing boost well above stock, the JDM ceramic turbos are more delicate and with smaller injectors, if you can't flow fuel you can't flow air so less max power from stock fuel system.

The 280ps was a gentlemans agreement, but beyond that it was nothing. Stock numbers on GTR's and Supra's often surpassed the 280 mark, it was only listed as such so that marketing didn't turn into a sheer hp contest.

From Wiki:
Quote:
A now-defunct agreement between the major Japanese auto manufacturers to limit the maximum advertised engine power of their cars to 280 PS (206 kW or 276 hp).
