1997, Toyota equipped their Century Limousine with a 5.0 L DOHC V-12 (model # 1GZ-FE), making it the first and only Japanese front-engine, rear-wheel drive production car equipped with a V12.

Who came up with this 500px wide BS?
The 1GZ-FE is a 5.0 L (4996 cc) V12 48 valve DOHC engine. Bore is 81 mm and stroke is 80.8 mm, with a compression ratio of 10.5:1. Output is 276 hp (206 kW) at 5200 RPM with ft·lbf (481 Nm) of torque at 4000 RPM. The fuel system is a EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) system.

The Century received a complete redesign in 1997, although the new model was visually very similar to the old. This current model is powered by a 280 PS 5.0 L 1GZ-FE V12, initially with a 4-speed automatic, and then a 6-speed "intelligent" transmission. It also features air suspension and a factory LPG gas option, enabling the 2-ton car to be classed as a low emission vehicle. The Century remains the first and only Japanese front-engine, rear-wheel drive production car equipped with a V12.
The Century has been Toyota's most luxurious model since its inception in 1967. In fact, it is placed above the Toyota equivalents of Lexus offerings in Japan. The Century is distinguished by different color options than the rest of the Toyota lineup.
Like other cars in the top of the luxury class, the Century is designed with a chauffeur in mind. Hence, the rear seats recline and the front passenger seat has a fold-down center section so that a passenger in the back may stretch his feet forward.
The Century is priced at ¥11,130,000 or approximately US$94,500 (as of 2006).
Although the Century is not exported outside Japan in large numbers, it is used frequently by officials stationed in overseas Japanese offices.
In contrast to other luxurious cars (such as the Maybach or a Rolls Royce), the Century has not been positioned and marketed as a sign of wealth or excess. Instead, the Century projects an image of conservative achievement. Marketing literature states roughly that, "the Century is acquired through persistent work, the kind that is done in a plain but formal suit." This image drove a good deal of the 2nd generation design as a traditional and tasteful update of the original.
Thats nutty...a FWD V12. Thats a pretty small V12 too considering it's only a 5L...
its not a production car but if im not not mistaken its been within in the past couple of years that the v12 supra project was done
i heard bout it in passin
and the person who told it to me did not have all the info himself
Toyota makes the car to order, and generally purchases it back when they are done. It is rare to find the car to begin with, and even more rare to find the engine given Toyota's policy on them.
As far as I saw, this was written up last December in the Japanese car mags, and just recently a nice spread with details appeared in one of the popular U.S. import rags.
Regardless of what Toyota's policy is with these V12 motors, this project was done by Top Secret in Japan, and that company has so much credibility and clout they are practically an arm of the Japanese government in charge of crazy wild ass pushing the boundaries car modifications ...or "Dept of CWAPTBCM" for short
