3rd Generation minimum critical systems

87 turbo supra, 5 speed.

after completely stripping the interior, I have begun
reassembly but Im curious what is the minimum
required to start the car, since I dont yet want to install
the heater control, cruise control, TEMS, e-brake,
brake lights, window controls, stereo, etc.

So far I have installed the dash, gauge cluster, ECU and traction
control computer. there is now a missing bulb/
bulb base on the back of the gauge cluster, could that
cause the car to not start? If not, then what else may
need to be hooked up before I can expect the car to
start barring any unseen issues?

anyone who has a clue about this and could shed some
light on it for me, I would greatly appreciate it...thanks!

There wasn't a traction control computer in the Mk3's.... The clutch switch would prevent the car from starting if it's not wired in..

What do you mean when you say "not start"? Do you mean the starter doesn't turn, or do you mean it doesn't fire over?

Bear minimum is fuel, ignition, ecu, intake, and radiator (ok, it will run for a few seconds without cooling, but it isn't good). As long as everything on the motor is hooked up, it will start.

You don't need a dash, TEMS, or any of that other stuff.

no click, no starter action at all, nothing at all
when the key is turned. I'll double check all the
connections. I was just unsure if all that stuff
besides the ECU would be needed to start it.

some guys from a shop came out when
it was all apart and installed an alarm system,
so 2 stock connectors under the steering wheel
no longer seem to have mates,
and they're zip tied to the other alarm wires, as if
they are no longer to be used.

thanks a bunch for the replies guys!!!

good call TcmaBoy, I believe the battery had a
bad connection, now Im getting dash lights, but when
I turn the ignition key to start it, the doors lock ...
not a peep from the starter.

looks like I need to study the alarm manual
and / or call the bozos who installed it ...

thanks again Jeeves and TcmaBoy for your
assistance.

Jeeves, you're a genius. your comment about
the clutch switch, it was connected ... but my
driver car is an automatic, I had forgotten that
the clutch pedal in my Supra has to be depressed.
it started right up, and had not run since last
July ... so I guess the fuel did not turn to
varnish during that time. a good thing.

time for a celebration!
thanks again, this forum is the best.

Congrats!

I fought the battle of "Why won't it turn over" when I started mine a few months back, mine was a dead started :-)
