does any one know what manual transmission is used in the 1JZGTTE engine. I found one but it has a automatic transmission with it and I just need the manual to go with it. is there any place to buy it or can I use the non turbo transmission with my supra right now

You can use the R-154, but you will need to find a bellhousing and flywheel. The starter will cary over, and you can use a 7MGTE clutch.

They are different, and will hold FAR less power. Clutches are something you don't want to skimp on.

As TCMA said, it's an R-154 tranny, but it has to have the right bellhousing to bolt it up.

I got a bellhousing that mates a 1jz to NA 7mge tranny if your interested. You can find w5X (i.e w51, w55, w58) a lot easier than the r-154 tranny and there known to support a lot of HP.

so the r154 is the transmission to use will a r154 transmission bolt into the non turbo 7mge to beef it up

i'm sure it would bolt up... I dont see why they would change the blocks from the 7mge and the 7mgte just for the tranny (since the turbo models had the r154 and the NA had W58) buuuuuut since I havent torn into an NA Supra I'm not completely sure...

tgidavid, why would the R154 be difficult? if you're swapping to the 1j, you might as well step up to the tougher gearbox.

Anyhow, if you currently have a W58, I'd use it. The R154 is the trans of choice as far as I'm concerned. The W58 will only take 350hp or a little more before it melts down, and upgraded clutches are tougher to find. R154 is pretty much unlimited power holding for the purposes of 99.99% of supra owners...

If you are staying non turbo, stick with the W58...no reason to change it as the non turbo will never make the power needed to break one.

Its not difficult per say as swapping a w58. The difficulties lies with either sourcing a good condition r154 which after 3 years of selling engines, I've only come across 3. The next difficulties is sourcing a bellhousing that would fit a 1jz to an r154. Luckily that can still be purchased from toyota but it will cost you and arm, leg, kidney, :P. I only suggested the W55 series because you can get those almost anywhere. And the 350HP is kinda of a misnomer. There are guys well into the 400s that still used a w5x tranny. The trick is to find one off a truck or pickup with the steel forks.
