Sure wasn't me. I believe the factory speakers are 4" up front and 5" in the rear. Later models got 6.5" speakers up front but they lacked boxes, so the 'faux' low-end wasn't quit there.
As for the stock setup, it's pretty puny. There is no real low-end to be had w/o adding a subwoofer and even mid-range is lacking due to the puny 4"'-ers being used. Some people have squeezed 6x9's in the rear, but as you can look and see it's a nightmare getting things to play along back there.
Really, the stock setup was just 'not good'. It was functionaly but not much more IMO.
As for your amp. If they're on factory speakers an amplifier is going to do them damage REAL quick, stockers were like 4Ohm @ 15W peak, or something equally dismal. As for the inputs to the Amp, I believe you will run into issues using speaker outputs from the deck as speaker inputs to the amplifier. What you'd really want to do in that case is use an amp that has support for "Line Level Inputs". The proper way, of course, to do all of this would be to install a proper deck, run RCA cables, run good solid power lines to the amp, and install new speakers to boot. But that doesn't seem to be what you're looking to do.
