3rd Generation my 1jz wont idle.......

Hi! I have a 91 MK3 that i imported from japan which has 1JZ-GTTE. I loved the car, itz completely stock except the trust filter, trust exhaust, and cat bypass.......anway.... this came out of no where. I was driving normally. Next day, when i started the car, it didnt idle, i thought it was because i dont have full fuel, so i filled up the gas, and it still wont idle.........I can drive the car, but I have to step on the gas to keep the engine running, the funny thing is that once the boost goes to 0kg/mm, i can hear a leak the the turbo, but then i disconnect the battery to reset the ECU, then i reconnect the battery n start the car again, it was fine, but itz only the leak is gone, the idle problem still exist........o and one more thing, there r alot of black smoke comin out <--it makes the underground parking lot so foggggggggy........................any1 have any ideas???

Gripe:
The GTTE is a misnomer from Nisssan engines. Nissan uses two T's to imply Twin Turbo, Toyota's only use one T and ignore whether it's twin turbo or not.

On Topic:
Black smoke is a sure sign that the car is using too much gas. You say you hear a leak when you get under boost. It sounds like an intercooler/charge pipe/coupler has broken somewhere. Because it's a leak, you may have issues idling, etc.

the thing that pisses me off is that, it happens all in a sudden w/o warning, but then I let it sit for a week w/ battery disconnected, and its normal...............there is no sign of liquid leak anywhere, as it has been sittin in the parkin lot for a week n liquid mark on the floor.............

he's talking about an air leak...not liquid. If the intake system has leaks after the sensor, you have problems. Vacuum leaks will also cause problems, as will gasket leaks.

Aye. Air leak, sorry I didn't make that clearer.

Were you pressurizing the piping or were you idling while spraying the pipes?

Yes, but there are two ways of doing it. One requires you putting pressure on the system from a hand pump, the other is while the car is idling. Which method did you use?

hmm. I always preferred using the hand pump, so that nothing else makes noise and I can hear it too... I'd either blame a leak, or an AFM issue.

it was the map sensor, i replaced it, everything went fine now, except that the idle is a bit funny. when i start the engine when itz cold, the idle will go up and down from 1300rpm to like 3000rpm, but once it warm up it will be ok. and also, it doesnt do that all the time......... i am thinkin if the water temp sensor that gives the wrong signal?? the water temp sensor was replaced, but the guy at the repairshop told me that the 7m-gte sensor works as well, so he put it in for me, but I just found out that the 1jz sensor is different the 7m sensor, would that be the problem?

I believe the temp sensor would have nothing to do with idle speed.

I would check the coolant temp sensor just to be sure. It is possible that it is sending a bad signal causing the ECU to jump in and out of warm up mode. I have seen that problem crop up on the Tacoma engines.

The 1JZ shares about 70% of its parts with the 2JZ, so that is the place to start looking for replacements. I don't know of anything other than the R-154 clutch that the 1HZ shares with the 7MGTE.
