Electrical Power Loss & Smoke

Just started the 87 Supra and loss all electrical power
Under hood I could smell and see smoke from the #2 fuse box.
There is a wire (fuseable link?) from one post to the other that was smoking, sparking and broken. I assume its a fuseable link.
The box cover says ALT 1.25B.
The alternator is a rebuilt Bosch.
If it is a fuseable link that broke, could it be that its just old or is there something else I need to check first before I replace the link?

I was lucky, it broke at home in the garage.

What guage fusible link do i need?
I have 14 gauge.

Removed the alternator and took it apart. The rectifier failed the had no continuity at all.
Hooked up the link and no spark (with the alt off the vehicle) and I have power and it starts.

Now did the alt just take a dump or did something kill the alt?

DO I go with a Toyota alt or Napa?

Really, we have no way of answering these questions. It's a whole "who knows" world.

The only fusible link should come off one of the battery terminals. Your alternator definitely took a dump and I suggest using toyota parts only. Usually I have no issues with aftermaket alternators, but I did hear that the napa brand bearings go out prematurely. Is this a swap? I would suggest checking the wiring again. You might have crossed the IGN and GND terminals off the alternator.

The car has a dead short somewhere. The fusible link blew because the current flow through the cable was too great. You will need to troubleshoot to see where this short is. Check all other fuses to see if something else blow. Also check the alternator

The problem was the + wire from the battery to the alt.
The wire connector insulation wore down over time and shorted out on the alt case.
Easy fix, rubber hose and electrical tape.

The fusible link in the fuse box under the hood now needs replaced. I ordered a new one from Toyota. How do you remove it? I pulled with plyers with no luck. I will see what the new one looks like to see how it might be removed.

remove the fuse box as best you can and flip it over. Remove the cover. They have bolts holding ring terminals on the underside.
