7M-GE bearings ?

i bought a 89 supra about 4 mths ago with a rod knock. I heard I could drop the oil pan and and change bearings that way. From experience is this possible and are there potentially any risks? Ido understand that its probably best to do the bottom end but Ireally dont have the money. I will have some help but neither of us are familiar with the 7m-ge. any suggestions?

The rod bearing will only get worse over time; the result could be a thrown rod. If the crank journal has been damaged from all the pounding, just replacing the bearing will not solve the problem. Then the crank needs to be repaired or replaced.

You will also have the fight of your life trying to do bearings in the car. There is not enough clearance to remove the pan while the engine is bolted in. Some who have done it had to lift the engine a few inches to get clearance to remove the pan and swore they would never do it again for any amount of money.

I've removed the pan with the engine in the vehicle. I had to lift the engine, and drop the crossmember and I still didn't have lots of room.

Get a used motor. Probably cheaper, definitely less hassle. Ebay is your friend. If your rods are in sham shape, then there is not much point to repair it. Also take into consideration it's mileage.
