Supra Automatic to manual

Hi guys, im turning 16 soon, so i am looking at cars, and i stumbled opon this toyota supra 93 for $5000
this is what was posted on the craigslist
1993 Toyota Supra, 118k miles, Premier Edition, black, auto, non turbo, needs engine work.

and I ended up emailing them, and this is what they said
It has a good title. It is my daughters car. Her grandfather bought it new in 93 and gave it to her when she started college. No mods done, never been beat, but it spent 10 years in the Florida sun and that took a toll on the interior.
Tires are good, no real problems until the waterpump went out. Engine overheated when water pump went out. Replaced water pump and found that the compression has dropped significantly in a few cylinders. Not certain if it's the head gasket or rings, etc - I don't know that much about the inside of an engine. The toyota mechanic wanted an arm and a leg to pull the top end apart to nail down what is needed. She was ready to sell the car anyway, so we are not putting anymore money into it.
From researching the supra forums, it appears that if a guy wanted a project car, he could put about $5k into the motor and a some cosmetic work and have a $15-20k car.

and I am dissapointed that it is auto, and since my budget for a car is about 10k, I was wondering, do you think i could get a 6-speed manual, (or a 5-speed) and get those problems fixed for under 10k?

THANKS!
lol and btw, is this going to be a manual harder to drive than a 2000 toyota rav4 5-speed manual?

I dont see why it would be harder to drive. Most manuals are pretty simple to jump from one to another.

as far as converting it... I heard the 6-speeds go for quite a bit of coin. I'd concentrate on fixing that engine before converting the tranny unless you plan on swapping in a 2jzgte + 6-speed. I know where to get the 2jzgte for pretty cheap (LA area). That would take care of the engine problems and get ya turbo'd

hahah thanks,
do you know how much the parts will cost?
a 6-speed would be great unless it is much much higher in cost than a 5-speed

one of my good school friends' dad can get the labor done, so im not too worried about that

You would need more than the tranny. Driveshaft, complete rear end, 6 spd computer. These parts are hard to come by since there are not many around. But good luck
