whos taken the old 7mgte out and replaced it with a 2jzgte manual. does the r154 trans work with the 2jz or can i use the 2jz tranny? how about engine mounts. is it exact or is there some cutting and welding required. im thinking of just throwing out my old 7m sometime and getting a 2jz
R154 requires a 1j bell housing to mount to any JZ engine. You can use the getrag if you have it, but there is cutting welding and the shifter sits about 4 inches back from where it should be.
JZ engines require 89+ subframes, or adapters to fit an 86.5-88.
The R154 takes the 1JZ bell housing and flywheel with the 7MGTE clutch and starter. For motor mounts you need the 89+ sub frame with the corresponding round motor mounts and the 1JZ engine brackets.

isn't replacing the subframe...tricky? I can imagine it's quite involved...
any estimates as to how much the 1jz bell housing costs or where I could find it? I'm wanting to do this swap, I just haven't looked too into it as I cant afford it for several months...
In terms of an engine swap, a subframe swap is a joke. Once the engine is out, the subframe and suspension is +/- a dozen or so bolts and out it goes. Hell, if youre creative and have a hoist, you can leave the engine in and drop it all out the bottom.
Hmmm, why go through all the trouble and money to put in a 2JZ in, when you can modify the 7M. Yes it has a lot of bad credabilty but its an awesome motor once get rid of the freaky BHG problems...
^ are you saying its a joke as in real simple..seems like thats what youre saying
If you can swap an engine, the subframe is a joke...if you're tools haven't seen a bolt yet, it's probably not going to be fun or easy. You'll require a hoist or several jacks and in either case stands to support the frame. Really, it's like 12 nuts and bolts to drop it once you have the engine removed and the various lines (brake, power steering etc).
any chance of warping the frame by not supporting it properly?
oh and I already found an 89+ subframe hahah. Still has the 7m in it though. I take it you have to take the engine out first? It's in a junkyard... car wasn't totalled just the idiot ran it without oil heh.
