Is the battery in good shape? Does the "Security" light on the dash light up when you lock the car? The two most common issues where the starter won't crank over at all are the starter solenoid not getting enough current or the stock alarm not getting disabled when the door is unlocked.

If it's the security system, try locking the car from the driver's side, make sure the red light comes on on the gauge cluster, then try unlocking the car from the passenger side.

There is a switch on the back of each of the key cylinders, they wear out with age. The switch arms the alarm when you turn the lock one way and disarms when you turn the other. If the alarm has been triggered the starter is disabled.

To re-enable the starter you have to lock the car up, check the light on the dash to make sure the alarm has armed and then unlock the door without setting off the alarm. The passenger side lock usually works best due to infrequent use.
