You are going to have to change out the front sub frame for an 89+, get new motor mounts, get a R-154 trans with bell housing, a fly wheel, a clutch, cheat the ECU so that it will start and run with no auto trans hooked up......it goes on and on.

The real question is are you ready and willing to spend the money and do the work?

I don't see the gain personally, but hey, if you've got one for free that's an easy start.

If you're going to turbo it, you should really just cut the foreplay and swap in a 7M-GTE, with a machined block, machined head, metal head gasket and ARP head studs.

do you think it would be easier to just swap engines, could you use the same ecu and wiring harness or not, what would be required to make the car run with a 7mgte swap

Depends on how you want to do it. This is a long post, so rather than copy it verbatim, here's the link:

http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27725

There are very few straight, simple swaps like that. However, it's simpler than swapping into a whole other engine.

up to a point. It depends how much power you want to run. Cross into the high 300's and I'd have enough money around to pick up an R154 for when the W58 lets go. Some get good life out of them, many do not. The R154 is a much more resilient gearbox should you enjoy drag racing or you head for real high HP
