7mge non turbo motor

I saw heard a guy talking about the mk3 a little while ago and he said the non turbo 7mge motor does not blow head gaskets is this true. I am replacing my old non turbo engine that threw a rod in a few weeks with the non turbo motor 7mge and if this is true do I need to retorque the head any way.

They both had the same problem... the head bolt torque specification. The 7M-GE is less likely to blow at that spec only due to less stress. Plenty of N/A owners have had theirs give up on them.

Before you drop in the replacement motor I'd suggest you take some time and check clearances, replace the oil pump, timing belt, valve stem seals and headgasket anyway.... that is unless they've been serviced recently and you trust whoever did the work. It's a little bit of work, yes, but it's good insurance and will help ensure that this motor will last longer than your previous one.

^ and it's a LOT easier to do with the motor out of the car!
