3rd Generation Stock Boost

How much boost can a stock 90 supra turbo hold without engine upgrades? FYI my engine is in pretty good condition although i might get the head gasket replaced w/ a metal one if i can find it...but without that...i wonder...

How much boost on what turbo? Pressure is only one half of the equation.

On a stock composite HG 12 - 14psi with a slightly upgraded ct-26, provided it's not the ORIGINAL HG installed at the ORIGINAL torque specification... if it is it'll hold 12 - 14 for about 10 minutes to one week.

Flow? Who needs flow, pfft.

IMO, 10psi is about tops for 'daily drivability' on the stock HG, and even then it's way more than likely to go on you. Hell, running stock boost on a stock torqued HG is dangerous ;-)

Heh, he never asked how long it would last.

It would really depend on the driver too... in my case I'd give a stock HG with ARPs and 72ft lbs about 2 years. Half my friends would kill it in less and it would probably last my wife another 17 years.

Running stock boost on a stock HG isn't just dangerous... It's downright boring.

ok...well my turbo is still the stock one bc i have no funds at the moment for upgrades....but i might be able to afford a new headgasket soon....so it should be able to handle about 10 psi with a metal gasket on the stock turbo right?

You can't just install a metal gasket and be good. You have to machine the block and head as well or the metal head gasket is really all for naught.

so...when i had my HG changed i had a stocker placed back in and was torqued to 75 foot pounds.. been running 6 pounds of boost.. when they had the had off you could still see the cross hatching in the cylinder which was GREAT for a 100,000 mile motor. but if i shim the wastegate to 10 psi how long would it last in actuality... i mean im not in boost ALL the time.. only really to go up hills when i downshift or for the most like 5-10 seconds at most at a time..

Have a thorough leak down test done to determine the state of the rings. I'd also recommend using an actual boost controller, it makes it a lot easier to dial in a lower level if needed.

i can control the boost level with my foot.. i dont street race.. so if i see boost creep or anything ill let off the gas. whe i drive down and i floor it itll go to 6 pounds but if i let off a lil itll go down to 4.. expected.. i dont need a boost controller till i start modding and rebuild the motor
