Gen6 Synthetic media Oil filters

Who makes the cheapest Oil filter that has synthetic media in it, besides Mobil 1 or K&N, there has to be some no-name brand getting it made by a private supplier. Anyone know???

Two questions:

1. Why are you looking for this type of filter?

2. Why are you looking for a cheap one?

yes why would go cheap on a filter? i know the K&N are costly at 12$ a pop, but i think its worth it.

If you could buy a private label brand with the same internals as a the name brand for at least half the price would'nt you jump on it??? Why pay for the name?? Pay for the cost of the product!!! I'm just trying to get maximum filtration and keep the oil fresher over 3,000 miles... not all filters are alike...

That has more to do with the oil and the engine than the filter. Most filters are adequate. I am not sure I would push the oil changes on a turbo charged car. Thermal breakdown is more of an issue than filtration, and the oil gets cooked pretty good passing through the turbo system.

Up until a couple of years ago, the $2 Walmart brand Supertech oil filters were made of synthetic fibers. They were actually made by the same company that made Mobil1 oil filters. Someone opened them up and posted his findings on the internet. Too bad Walmart has changed manufacturers.

I use the Toyota oil filter made for the V8s. They have a bigger capacity than the Supra filters and are better made than your average oil filter from parts stores.

You're just wasting oil with changes every 3000 mi. Most oil manufacturers have stopped with that marketing strategy deferring to the manufacturer's specs (most of which call for a change once or twice a year... including Toyota).

Changing your oil filter too frequently can be a bad thing as well if you know nothing of the filter media.

Weren't the old Supertech filters made by Wix (see: NAPA Gold)?

Read the Fram part where an engineer exposes the product. I've always seen bad reviews on Fram filters. The filter material is paper with cardboard end caps.

ugh. fram is the worst!

if you want cheap and good, get NAPA gold. they're made by WIX and have excellent filtration properites. (as good or better than mobile one)
