gear oil

It says the mk3 should use 90w oil for the gear and deferential can you use 80w-90 in it for both or will it not work. and I have some lucus trans fix that has been siting on the shelf for a while it says it make light duty manual transmissions shift more smoothly has any one used this with manual transmission gear oil.

I'm not a fan of adding additives to oils unless I know precisely what other additives are in the oil already. The last thing you want is to mix two additives which either become caustic or emulsify when mixed and heated. Sometimes they just seperate and foam starving parts for oil... Leave the Lucas on the shelf.

You could use 80W-90, but I wouldn't. If you decide to use it in both, make sure it doesn't have any slip/friction modifiers already mixed in it. If you have a LSD add the slip/friction modifier as needed once the oil is in.

Ditch the junk oil you've got, and go get some Redline MT90. It's been worth every cent I've paid and then some.
