4M engine

Hello. I know this is a Supra forum, but I figured I'd try here and the Cressida.
I'm looking at a 79 Cressida with a 4M. I do not know much about the engine, other than it is carbureted and an early "M" series.

So.... I know any other "M" (5MGE, 7MGE) is pretty much a direct drop-in. Correct?

My question is- can anyone give me any good info on the 4M and can anyone also offer insight as to whether, if I were to get it, a later 5MGE swap might or might not be worth it?

the 4m is a 2.6l with power output was 108-122 hp (81-91 kW) at 5600 rpm and 134-141 ft·lbf (181-191 Nm) at 3600 rpm.

the 5m was a 2.8l with power output at 116 hp (87 kW) at 4800 rpm and 145 ft·lbf (196 Nm) at 3600 rpm

if you want more i would suggest possibly a 5MGE or 6MGE.. or if you want to get a 7mgte and get all the problems fixed with it..

if youre looking for more power i wouldnt do the swap because youre really not getting too much more if any.

Ok. Power and ease of finding parts were my thought motivations. And better fuel economy. Dunno if a 5MGE will get better than a 4M. (shrug)

Thanks!

5m has far more support, and can borrow the turbo and manifold from a 7m for an added kick. The 6M was available too...basically a 7m with a 5m head when you get right down to it. The 5m itself isnt much of a step up, but there are far more goodies available for it than the 4m. The 7m has the most support.
