Question Mods for CT12b turbo?

It might sound daft to ask about a 4-Runner in the supra forum but bear with me. i have a 94mod 4runner with a 1KZ-T (diesel) engine which has a single CT12b (steel) turbo. What kind of mods can be done to this turbo? and where can i get these mods? or are there other turbo`s that can replace this directly?

Thought the chances of getting an answer might be greater here as MKIV Supras have the same turbo.

They have the same turbo but in a very very different setup.

In unleaded fuel vehicles, you up the boost and tune for the new boost level. In diesels you up the fuel and boost comes with it. Very different methods of making power.

Let me rephrase myself.

The problem isn't tuning the engine or increasing the boost pressure, i`ve tuned diesel engines before. But "messing" with the turbocharger (CT12b) itself is something i haven't done before, so my question is: What mods can be done to the turbocharger to improve the efficiency/response? (aftermarket internals?), or is there a bigger/better turbocharger that can directly replace the CT12b? i have almost no knowledge about this particular turbocharger as it`s not very common in "normal" Toyota`s (unlike CT20/26 witch are used on a lot of models).

Im not familiar with any upgrades for the 12b...you might take a look on supraforums.com as there are a lot of 4th generation owners there that may have a source for upgrades. That said, most toss the tubos in favour of a large single. You might look to an adapter plate to adapt the manifold to something a little larger in the Garrett T3 family

There are a few folks in Australia that have tweaked the CT12a on the 1JZ, but I am not sure about the CT12b. Have you considered swapping to a T3 set up? There are T3s of every shape and size out there.
