Help Clutch

I was looking at prices for a clutch for a 88 year I can get one at rockauto for 89 dollars. But the problem is the engine I have is to a 89 year engine. the 89 engine says the clutch cost 160 dollars. My question is does it have to be engine specific or transmission specific. What clutch will I have to buy to make it work.

They didn't change the clutch during the Supra's lifetime. The only thing that matters is the W58 / R154 (N/A -vs- Turbo) transmissions.

Thank you so much. But why do they sell the 89 clutch for 60 dollars more.

Get part numbers from them then search for them on Google. in '89 they 'uppped' the power output very minorly.

I just searched their online catalog. What part of the clutch are you talking about? I saw kits in the $200+ range, nothing priced near what you're saying.

Alright, here's what I see (forgive the size):

1989 - 7M-GE - Clutch Kits

The part numbers you gave me, one has a discount:

The other doesn't:

They are also from different manufacturers, but they are only some ~$25 different without the discount. You'll also note the sizes are all the same (between the years). As you're going for a stock, replacement clutch on a ~200hp vehicle I wouldn't expect this to be a big deal one way or the other. My guess is one has a slightly different spring rate or something, either should work fine as long as it's for the W58 (N/A 5-spd) rather than the R154 (Turbo 5-spd).

Okay I forgot about looking at the regular price for the discount clutch so both are compatible.
