1985 Supra, need opinions

Hello all,

I've never owned a Supra, but I've heard nothing but good things about them. Just recently I've came across a 1985 Supra here in Hawaii. It has 110K miles, no dents, a little rust near the gas cap cover, as well as a deeper rust hole in the body, under the top of the door hatch. Other than that, it only needs a tune up, as it's been sitting for 2 years. The fellow said he changed the oil every 3 months, even while it was sitting. The interior is good and clean, no tears on the cloth seats, or cracks in the dash.

Anyhow, it's a 2.8L, 5 speed manual. The only other thing that I had a question about, was that it seemed to make a clicking noise when idling. It didn't sound like a rod knocking...he said it was an igniter...never heard of that, so was he just being a smart ass?

He wanted $1,500, but I talked him down to $1,250.

I have the VIN, but I have no idea how to decode them...any help?

Thanks

It's all about what you want. For that price, you could get the body fixed and still be driving a fairly cheap fun car. ticking noises tend to be injectors or a little valve train noise, and is often insignificant. Knocking is the sound of what you should avoid.

there tends to be a lot of hidden rust. Check the hatch closely as they almost all rust out from the inside. When you see it, there is much more than you expect.
