Next Stop MAFT Pro. Time for a "My New Mods" thread.

Alrighty. Well, we all know my Supra runs and that I made on the very cusp of 500hp/tq (which was above my stated goal of 450hp). So, I decided it was time to see what I could do to make good power but keep lag minimal and streetability high.

So, I got tired of the VPC/AFC Neo/AVC-R combination and have since removed it in favor of Maft Pro.

Now for photos:

Now, I'm against hacking up my stock harness. So, it turned out my buddy had an old VPC/GCC combo harness that had been hacked up when some stole all the head units. With soldering being one of my skills, repairing it to a usable condition was no big deal.

So, I used to have all my piggybacks wired into it. Well, since I was ditching them I had to re-fix it again so I could hack it to use my MAFT Pro.

Before MAFT Pro:
You can see the resistors hanging off the left there for the VPC and all...

During MAFT Pro soldering:

Anywho, I got it all wired up then ran into the issue of not having a 3/8" NPT tap for my IAT sensor. So, Being that the car was cold, I let the sensor hang (there's no way my intake temps would be more than ambient for a single start up) and plumbed the MAP sensor into the Manifold. Boost didn't matter at idle, so I left it just sitting in the bay.

Startup went great, after getting the base settings into the MAFT Pro (via the "Quick Setup" instructions). Took me a few mins to orient myself with the TunnerPro RT software, but once I did I snapped this quick vid:

Now, I've got the IAT tapped/threaded and the boost sensor plumbed as well, however, several inches of snow fell last night (just to mock me) so... No street tuning yet.

Sidenote:
Anyone seen a permanent laptop mount in a Mk3?

Welcome to the dark side Looks great so far! I've settled on the maft pro as well, but have far more mechanical concerns to deal with before I even try to tackle it. If you happen to come across one of the HKS harnesses for any price let me know. I purchased a brand new 87 harness last year and really have no desire to touch it given I can't get another again!

I've never seen a perm mount in a MKIII, but have seen the mounts before. I guess you could try going auto PC with a touch screen and avoid the mount altogether...

I wired in Timing monitoring last night but haven't gotten a chance to test it yet. I'll be making my own diagram (for the ZT2/MAFT Pro/etc.) and posting it later. I also plan on testing timing control, just have to settle on a method to wire it in as it's a decent amount of cutting important wires (see: gotta find me a good connector I can use). I also need to update to the latest firmware. I have a bad habit or trying to be the first to run new stuff.

New Mexico is a little weird like that. We may be a desert, but driving home from work tonight it was 38ºF and our nights have been quite frigid (by my standards).

Anywho, few more photos:

Laptop + Translator box, before I got Timing Monitoring working...

GM IAT Tapped and installed (3/8 NPT)

IAT & MAP Locations

ATX Power Supply adapter = 8 Pin spacer cable for timing control

Now the Tech chit chat.

I came home, soldered up the yellow wire to G2 on my harness, threw the timing light on the car, and started it up. As I expected, base timing was set at 14º. I entered "14" into "Timing Monitor, Base Adjust" uploaded, etc.
After entering the base timing, I reved it up a bit, and compared the timing light to the computer. The computer read 17 while the light read 24, hmm, not good. I hop in the car to do some adjustments and glance down, my A/F's are slowly climbing into what I'd consider to be not good range, even at idle w/no load.
I pull up "Aux Input 1 Voltage" and it reads 0. Hmm, a vf of 0 would normally mean rich... (which would cause the tccs to pull fuel outta the mixture) but since the car is cold (mostly), I'm not sure if this is worrysome or normal.

Either way, it creeped into the 17's and I killed it. Too close for me to just disregard it.

At this point it was low-40's in my garage and I'd decided I'd had enough for one night. It runs, and I'm getting data... I'm just not sure what I'm seeing. I'm going to dig through TunerPro RT and hopefully get some more time tomorrow to fight with it. For now, it's mildly frustrating.

I will also add that I wish they'd separated the brains and body of the MAFT Pro. It'd be nice to have a lightweight (see: Not attached to 1200 wires) display/control and have the brains tucked away in the dash.

Oh, one last photo... 2JZ Toys for future implementation:
