vz swap

I have a 86.5 supra, and I'm living the Rod-Knock life. Thinking it's time for a new motor. After long consideration, I've decided to go with the vz series motor. I just have a couple questions. First, I need to know if there is a way to use my existing 5-spd trans? From what I understand the vz uses the same bellhousing pattern as the s series. I read somewhere that the old 22r had a close pattern(they line up but one hole has to be enlarged?) and the trans was an older version of mine. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?

all new to me. Never even heard of anyone seriously considering going VZ on a supra before, so you might be the innovator. That said, unless you can afford a significant amount of downtime to do this, I'd just look for another 7m...

Well, for starters the 3VZ is a bit of a dog. The 5VZ is quite an improvement, but still only produces 190 HP. It perks up a bit with the addition of a TRD blower. It is also quite tall. I am not sure it will fit under the hood, but then agian if they can stuff one in an MR2...... The trucks use an R151 manual trans, and the usual A340 for an auto. The 22R used a W series manual trans.

Any particular reason to go with such a rare swap?

I'm probly going to use 3vzfe from a camry because of its mid-range power. Apparently its one of toyotas bestkept sercrets. Yamaha help design the heads and it was detuned for the camry. It originally produced just as much power as the 7m and jz's (n/a of course). I'm setting my car up for road course/Drifting and with that In my mind a v6 will offer better weight distribution than and I6 ever will. Some of the mr2 guys who have swapped this motor are getting in the mid 400hp range rather easily. This is morethan enough power for what I want.

And I read that the 5vzfe rwd 5-spd tacomas use a similar trans to the turbo ma70. That bellhousing my be my golden ticket.

I though the Camry used the 1MZ. Doing a transplant from a Camry could be interesting considering that it is a front drive transverse mounted engine. If you are going to all this trouble why not go for a UZ series engine? It has more displacement and higher compression.

See, I've read that about the 3VZ-FE myself as well, the problem I have is that I've never found anything to prove it's true. It's quoted as such from a single website, and everyone has repeated it everywhere. Then I've looked for dyno's and such and seen that in several cases it's taken extreme measures (relatively) to make a measly 240hp. Build block, high compression, etc.

Either way, rock on if it's the way you want to go.
