MK3 Ball Joints? Help please

I got a 89 Supra turbo about a week ago and theres a few things ive ran into.

The engine idles at about 500 RPM no matter what im in. (Its a automatic sadly)

When we had it up on the hydrolic lift we were messing with the wheels and they had about a cm or more of play up and down. My friend whos a mechanic told me that it was probably my ball joints. I looked around and can only find the upper ball joint with the whole arm. Is there any way to get the ball joint without having to buy the whole arm with it cause thats almost 300$.

Welcome,

The idle speed on a supra should be somewhere about 600rpm. If you're measuring off hte stock tach, it's probably close. As long as it is smooth that's all it needs. That said, on cold start it should race up to over ~1500 and come back down as the engine warms.

The lower ball joints are replacable by themselves, but the uppers only come with arms. It sucks when the time comes, but it only needs to be done every 20 years if the car is treated right, so really compared to anything else I've owned it is not too bad.

Im not measuring off the stock gauges, the guy i bought the car from had indigo gauges put in but i believe they are all the same as stock. Like speed rpm etc. It idles a little below 500, and sometimes it actually wants to die out. Ill try to start it up, itll crank over and bobble between like 200-300, then when i give it some gas itll rev to like 1000 then drop to like 200-300 again and sound like its dieing. If i hold it at 1,000 for like 5-10 seconds itll drop to like its average idle speed wich is around 500. Does anyone know why that could happen? I was told that my cold start injector could be going out.

could be. Might also be a vacuum issue, might be EGR, and in the less likely category, it could be an injector. Does it go away when warm?

No it doesnt really go away. I was suprised when it ran at 750RPM this morning. And then it seemed like the tranny was slipping. But then it lowered to around 500 rpm at idle and everything was good to go.
